Bunker Supplier in Çanakkale

Bunkering at Çanakkale depends on confirmed supply: a transiting ship may anchor with permission and take fuel. The Mediterranean ECA starts at the southern mouth of the strait, and southbound ships cross that line on 0.10% fuel.

Bunkering in Çanakkale

The Dardanelles connect the Aegean with the Marmara, and ships to and from the Black Sea pass through. Most do not stop. Those that do use the anchorages listed in the regulation while waiting for a slot, pilot or weather. Under the Ports Regulation, ships with an air draft of 70 m or more may not pass under the 1915 Çanakkale Bridge.

This is where the fuel calculation changes. MEPC.361(79) draws the ECA line between Mehmetçik Burnu and Kumkale Burnu. North of it 0.50% applies, south of it 0.10%. A northbound ship may return to 0.50% fuel after the line, and a southbound ship finishes its changeover before it.

Bunkering Process in Çanakkale

  1. Direction

State whether the ship is northbound or southbound. How much 0.10% fuel a southbound ship needs depends on it.

  2. Confirming Supply

Delivery options around the strait are asked for each enquiry and stated in the offer.

  3. VTS Permission

A ship in non-stop transit may stay at a designated anchorage for up to 168 hours with VTS permission and take fuel. The SP-1 report goes in at least 24 hours before entry.

  4. Changeover and Documents

Date, time, position and tank quantities are recorded at changeover. The BDN and sample are then kept for the MARPOL periods.

Bunkering Requirements in Çanakkale

Rules change. Confirm current practice with the port agent.

  • ECA Line

The MEPC.361(79) line runs between Mehmetçik Burnu (40°03′N, 26°11′E) and Kumkale Burnu (40°01′N, 26°12′E).

  • Waiting at Anchor

Türkiye's regulation applies 0.10% at anchor over two hours and 0.50% to a ship only transiting. Get written confirmation from your agent on which applies to a transit ship waiting at anchor.

  • Pollution Fines

The Dardanelles are among the waters where fines are doubled in the 2026 tariff.

  • Rules Across Türkiye

Fuel delivery to ships is called ihrakiye in Turkish law, and Trade Ministry circular 2024/3 requires the supplier to hold the relevant EPDK licence. Article 34 of the Ports Regulation limits bunkering to quays, jetties and anchorages the harbour master approves, and requires the supplying vessel to carry pollution liability insurance. Customs may compare fuel on board with the arrival declaration; a local agent's alert says any excess can be treated as smuggling and taken ashore. On scrubbers, a 2020 letter from the Maritime Directorate says there is no general ban on washwater discharge but sludge may not go into the sea. The American Club's summary of the 2026 fine tariff lists "foam scrubber system wash water" among fined wastes, so ask your agent before discharging.
